Weddings
I feel privileged to be chosen by a
couple to conduct their wedding ceremony.
I emphasise to couples that the day is all about them, and I would take this approach with you if chosen as your celebrant. As it’s such an important day in your life, I ensure that you are fully involved in the development of the ceremony’s structure and content. It is important that it is unique to you and is exactly what you want.
This can often include your “story” about how you met, how your love for one another developed, and key moments in your relationship.
Then there are elements such as readings, personal vows or promises to each other, symbolic gestures, and music, as well as options about involving friends and family in the ceremony - all helping to make it an inclusive and enjoyable experience for all involved.
According to your preference, your ceremony can be traditional and formal, or full of fun and laughter, and maybe a bit of both – the choice is yours.
My role is to fashion a script to deliver a unique ceremony on your big day which reflects your wishes. My style is more informal and relaxed, and I try to ensure that everyone in the room enjoys the event. I would discuss this, together with ceremony choreography, when we meet to start planning your ceremony.
I also help couples with the “legals” they have to see to in order to have
a legal ceremony by directing them to a helpful website:

Once couples secure their date on the Humanist Society Scotland website:

https://www.humanism.scot/humanist-ceremonies/secure-date/
I send them what I call ”the big email”. This includes a checklist and several documents to help couples to consider what they want to include in their ceremony. I then don’t contact them again until three months before the wedding day. As couples need to apply for their marriage schedule three months before their big day, this is the ideal time to start the ball rolling to plan the ceremony structure and content.
Once I send a draft ceremony script, couples respond with any changes or additions they want and I send updated scripts as required until everyone is happy with the final version.
